SiteLab is privately held by three agency principals: Marlene Matheson, Dana Todd and Mike ZeMans. Each principal governs a different aspect of the company, from operations to creative development, and from online marketing to programming. SiteLab's management team are leaders in their fields, with a rich and lengthy combined resume of skills including large project management, graphic design, Website design and development, database programming and e-commerce development, Internet marketing, search engine marketing, email campaigns and Website analytics.

Marlene Matheson, CEO

Marlene Matheson, CEO

Marlene Matheson has led SiteLab from a 5-person spinoff to becoming one of the Top 50 Interactive Agencies in the world. She has a wealth of experience in sales, marketing, human resources and management, acquired over 30 years in various industries, including high-tech, pharmaceutical, banking and real estate/mortgage, and non-profit. A native of Canada, she was nominated for San Diego Woman of the Year in 1993, and brings to SiteLab a strong dedication to client service and broad-based business knowledge. Marlene started in the Internet space in 1994, leading SiteLab's predecessor to become an early global player in Web design and online community development.

Dana Todd, Executive Vice President

Dana Todd

Press, industry analysts and technology leaders frequently tap Dana for her knowledge of the search engine marketplace. She regularly appears as a top speaker at national and international conferences such as @d:tech and Jupiter Media's Search Engine Strategies. Dana talks candidly about the pros and cons of leading search engine marketing programs, and speaks from experience. Her passion for helping clients utilize the search space, while still upholding core branding principles, has helped evolve SiteLab's best practices over the years, to touch every single department and project in terms of understanding the search engine impacts, and to develop content and designs specifically for search engine marketing as part of standard operating procedures.

Mike ZeMans, Vice President of Information Architecture and Optimization

Mike ZeMans, Vice President of Production

Mike ZeMans can honestly brag that he built some of the first commercial sites on the World Wide Web (remember when all sites had a gray background?). His knowledge of information architecture, user flow efficiencies and technical requirements is an essential part of his leadership in running the site development departments. He's finicky about programming and interface quality, which is a good thing. Mike has a BA in Applied Mathematics - Economics, University of California, Riverside; plus, an MA, Applied Mathematics - Psychology, University of California, San Diego. Mike was one of the founding members of SiteLab in 1994, when it was still Bien Logic.

Carmella Spencer, Vice President of Sales & Marketing

Carmella Spencer, Vice President of Sales & Marketing

A pioneer in the internet advertising space with a passion for creative ways to leverage the web, Carmella Spencer brings over 10 years of internet experience to Sitelab. In 1997, Carmella was part of the original web team for SignOnSanDiego.com, website of the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper where she helped to lead in the creation and growth the newspaper website; now the largest and most visited local internet destination in Southern California. After five years at SignOnSanDiego.com, Spencer moved to television as the General Sales Manager for TheSanDiegoChannel.com, KGTV 10, the local ABC affiliate and a division of Internet Broadcasting Systems (IBS) and later adding her expertise to the email marketing solutions company, BlueHornet Networks, as General Manager. Most recently as Director of Marketing for the American Council on Exercise (ACE), a non-profit organization servicing the fitness community, Carmella built the ACE brand and grew revenue through traditional marketing channels, internet initiatives, and website and ecommerce strategies. Additionally, Spencer's background includes several years in corporate training and human resource management as well as an 18-year management tenure with American Airlines.

Thomas Henry Kicmol, Director of Production and IT Services

Thomas Henry Kicmol

Thomas Kicmol is currently Production Manager at SiteLab International, Inc. headquartered in La Jolla, California. His role is to provide SiteLab clients with savvy, trustworthy technology solutions through leadership of SiteLab’s creative and production teams.

With more than a decade of experience in Web-based business applications, Thomas brings strength in information architecture development, usability design, usability research, enterprise/business strategies garnered from five years as an analyst at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). Thomas’ role at UCSD was a hybrid of project management, engineering, and business consultant. While there, he ran seminars on best IT practices, market trends and Information Architecture development.

His career in technology markets began in 1996 when he founded Atlanta-Internet-Mall.com in Atlanta, Georgia. Before selling Atlanta-Internet-Mall.com and moving to San Francisco with his fiancé, Thomas created some of the very first shopping cart systems.

Following his move to California, Thomas developed best practices for discovery of client business initiatives, vendor selection processes, and documentation of information architecture as a consultant and contractor for firms as diverse as Groundswell.net, SAIC, FedEx, Thompson Group, Public Storage, and Rolls Royce.

Thomas obtained his foundational education with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Political Science, and a minor in business law in 1995 from the University of Wisconsin. Seeking to increase his understanding of business practices, Tom also obtained a certificate as a paralegal in business administration. In 2000 he earned a master’s degree in Information Technology from AIU.

Julie Stoll, Controller

Julie Stoll

Julie recently joined SiteLab after 10 years in the Medical Manufacturing industry. She has worked as a Plant Controller responsible for the plant accounting function for a medical device manufacturer. Her background also includes 10 years of programming, system implementation, general and cost accounting. She has an MBA in Finance and a B.S. in Information Systems both from San Diego State University.
